The Outstanding Woman Faculty Award began in 2001 to
reward women of academic achievement who mentor and encourage junior women
in medicine and science. Past are Debra Fiser, MD, Professor and Dean,

Radiology (2002), Laura Hutchins, MD, Professor of Medicine (2003), Jeanne

Education (2004), Jeanne Wei, MD, PhD,
Vice-Chair and Professor of Geriatrics (2005), Cindy Kane, Ph.D., Professor,
Neurobiology and Developmental Sciences (2006), and Jeannette M. Shorey II,
MD, Associate Dean, CME & Faculty Affairs (2007), and Linda L. M. Worley,
M.D., Professor, Psychiatry(2008), and
Gwen Childs, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Neurobiology and Developmental

The call for Outstanding Woman
Faculty Award 2012 is out: We are now accepting
nominations for the 2012 Outstanding Woman Faculty Award. The deadline for
submitting a nomination is Monday, February 6th. All women faculty are members
of the Women's Faculty Development Caucus (WFDC) and are encouraged to
participat ein th enomination and voting process. Now is the time to honor
a colleague.
What
is the definition of an Outstanding Woman Faculty Member? One who is a successful and
appreciated mentor and role model with a record of scholarly endeavors,
demonstrable teaching expertise, strong leadership as demonstrated by
administrative skills and professional accomplishments, a history of
helping develop careers for other women,
Women’s Caucus involvement, and a record of clinical or research excellence (if
applicable). Emphasis will be placed on
leadership and mentoring.
Who Belongs to the Caucus and
Who Can Vote? All College of Medicine women faculty are members of the
Women’s Faculty Development Caucus and as such can nominate and vote.
Only College of Medicine women Associate Professors
or Professors are eligible for nomination.
Who is an Outstanding Woman Faculty
Member? One who is a successful and appreciated mentor and role
model with a record of scholarly endeavors, demonstrable teaching expertise,
strong leadership as demonstrated by administrative skills and professional

Nomination Process Nominations must be submitted to Glenda J Cooper
(cooperglendaj@uams.edu) by email no later than
Monday, February 6th. Nominations
should address the candidate's scholarly and mentoring contributions,
leadershiop ability, and service to UAMS and the community. Ask the
candidate for her CV for specific references to scholarly work. Your
nomination should include global details about how the candidate has
distinguished herself in science, and or in medical education or in the clinical
field. How has she encouraged the professional growth of women faculty?
Describe why you think this woman is a leader and how she has assisted and
encouraged the career development of junior faculty . Be
specific and keep it to 400 words.
