As a strong supporter of Arkansas families, you are aware of our state’s increasing diversity in culture and languages as families move into Arkansas.  You have a unique opportunity to showcase your support for children and families from diverse cultures by becoming a sponsor of the  Welcome the Children - Celebrating Cultural Harmony Institute.  

This professional development event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 18 - 20, 2009, with an anticipated attendance of 150.  This is the perfect opportunity for teachers, child care providers, students and individuals from various cultural and ethnic groups to gain a better understanding of each other, attend workshops, view exhibits, and share ideas and strategies to help children and families in Arkansas.

The Institute is being offered through the Welcome the Children project, which provides training to early childhood professionals who serve Spanish-speaking children and their families.  Welcome the Children is administered by Partners for Inclusive Communities, a program of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and is funded by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education.  Welcome the Children provides free training to Arkansas child care providers, early childhood educators and other professionals who work with young Spanish-speaking children. 

This Institute is a mechanism to provide and expand the professional development opportunities available to professionals through the Welcome the Children project.  The training will ultimately enhance the services being provided to all children and their families in our state.
