The Department of Urology offers a fully accredited urology
residency training program with a history of training excellent
clinical urologists. The program is conducted by six full-time
faculty members under the director of Dr. Donald Johnson, director of
Education, with rotations through the UAMS Medical Center, The
Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System and Arkansas
Children's Hospital.
The program consists of PGY1 year in
general surgery at UAMS followed by four years of urology
residency. Formal teaching conferences are conducted for two hours weekly following a four-year teaching calendar.
Extensive outpatient, in-patient and operative experiences
are achieved through rotations throughout our three teaching hospitals:
UAMS Medical Center, VA and Children's hospitals. All residents participate in clinical research experiences.
All applicants must have his/her application in before October 15 of the year preceding the PGY 1 year. Separate applications through ERAS
must be made for the PGY 1 year in general surgery and the PGY 2 year in Urology.
All applicants must have the following:
- Official transcript from medical school.
- Dean's letter.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Personal statement.
- USMLE scores.
