LITTLE ROCK – Timothy A. Taylor, of Little Rock, has been named communications manager for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Psychiatry and its new Psychiatric Research Institute, scheduled to open in December. Taylor has worked at UAMS for five years, most recently as a writer for the UAMS Web Center.

Prior to coming to UAMS, Taylor worked as a communications specialist for Alltel Information Services, as communications director for the Arkansas State Library and as a reporter and editor for the Arkansas Democrat, the Arkansas Gazette and Stephens Media. Taylor, a native of New Orleans, has a degree in journalism from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia and is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Information Technology Minor Program.

The new five-floor, 100,000-square-foot UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute will be one of only a few in the country combining outpatient and inpatient care, research, education and administrative offices under one roof. Currently, the Department of Psychiatry is scattered among 13 locations in central Arkansas, with about 8,700 patient visits monthly.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has 2,538 students and 733 medical residents. Its centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W.
