UAMS Hosts Free Seminar Sept. 9 in Hot Springs Village on Minimally Invasive Hip, Knee, Elbow and Shoulder Surgery

LITTLE ROCK – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) orthopaedic surgeons Richard Evans, M.D., and Ash Hasan, M.D., and nationally known geriatrician David Lipschitz, M.D., Ph.D., will discuss hip, knee and shoulder pain treatment and minimally invasive joint replacement surgery during a free seminar Sept. 9 in Hot Springs Village.

The session will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Coronado Community Center. The seminar is free, but space is limited. For reservations, call 501-686-8181.

Lipschitz, professor and chairman of the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics and director of the UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging, will begin the seminar with a presentation on patients and surgery.

Besides minimally invasive hip, knee, elbow and shoulder surgery, seminar topics include the impact of arthritis on the joints, one-day knee and shoulder surgery, new procedures and medications, exercise and fitness, and new mechanical devices. There also will be a question-and-answer session.

Evans, a hip and knee replacement specialist who has been in private and academic practice for more than 17 years, is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery in the UAMS College of Medicine and director of the UAMS Center for Hip and Knee Surgery. Hasan is director of the UAMS Center for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery in the UAMS College of Medicine.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has about 2,320 students and 690 medical residents. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 9,300 employees, including nearly 1,000 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS’ Area Health Education Centers throughout the state.
