LITTLE ROCK – Catherine Stanger, Ph.D., has joined the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine as an associate professor in the Center for Addiction Research (CAR).

Stanger was recruited from the University of Vermont in Burlington where she was a research associate professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology. Her research interests include adolescent substance abuse, behavioral parent training, improving the outcomes for children of substance-abusing parents and child psychopathology.

Stanger received her master’s degree and doctorate in clinical psychology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., and graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in psychology from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, five centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has more than 2,320 students and 690 residents and is the state’s largest public employer with almost 9,000 employees.
