Clinical Research Grant Deadline Is Dec. 1, 2001

OCT. 11, 2001 | The first deadline is Dec. 1 in a new grant program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at UAMS has established a pilot grant program that will provide up to four grants annually of up to $15,000 each to highly meritorious research projects.

The award will be in addition to GCRC support, as determined by the GCRC Advisory Committee (GAC). That support includes GCRC space and nursing support for the proposed studies, laboratory support as approved by the GAC, nutritional support including inpatient and outpatient meals, and in some cases biostatistical consultation, database consultation, design, and data storage. Thus, the total resources available for the chosen projects may exceed the $15,000 monetary award of a grant.

The GCRC Pilot Grant Program will allow junior faculty members, clinical fellows and both M.D. and Ph.D. post-doctoral trainees with appropriate mentors to obtain additional funds for a period of one year to support investigator-initiated, human-based, GCRC studies. The studies should lead to competitive extramural grant applications and to a career GCRC-focused clinical investigation.

Investigators who are likely to become competitive for peer-reviewed, federal funding, and who will use the GCRC in support of investigator-initiated, federally funded research in the future, will receive priority for the new grants. See more information or contact Suzanne Lumpkin (501-257-5890; lumpkinsuzanner@uams.edu) for an application.

The GCRC receives funding from the National Institutes of Health to support investigator-initiated, human-based research by the entire UAMS faculty, including the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
