SEPT. 6, 2001 | Photographs by George L. Ackerman, M.D., are on exhibit in the UAMS Library.
Dr. Ackerman is professor emeritus in the College of Medicine. The exhibit, “Wildflower Photographs,” will hang until Oct. 31 in the gallery space on the second floor of the Library in Education Building II. The Library is open during these hours: Mon.-Thurs., 7:30 a.m. – midnight; Fri., 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sun., noon – midnight.
Dr. Ackerman provided these comments about the photographs:
”These photographs are a product of my wife’s interest in wildflowers and the pleasure I receive from photography. Our interests, combined with the enjoyment of trips to the American West - specifically the Rocky Mountain chain extending from the Sangre deCristos in northern New Mexico to the Canadian Rockies - have given us many hours of pleasure viewing flowers, clear, cool mountain streams, and awe-inspiring vistas. And those trips provide a welcome respite from the heat and humidity of Arkansas summers!
”Cameras and accessories, film, and printing techniques of today are so good that one almost feels apologetic for claiming credit for the final print. All of these photographs were taken with a Nikon 8008 camera, and most were taken with Fujichrome Velvia film. The majority was exposed with available light, but a few were taken with electronic flash.
”I am indebted to Cheri and A.J. Payne, who made many of these prints, and to William E. Davis for advice and encouragement.”
