Viewing the Week's Events:
http://calendar.uams.edu/week.php.

Starting at the Calendar Main Level:
The main level of the calendar is found at the following link:
http://calendar.uams.edu/.  From there, you can choose which calendar to view.  The gray link for UAMS Events & Activities will take you to this week's events for all calendars.  Individual calendars may be found in the gray bars below UAMS Events & Activities, such as the Academic Events calendar link.  The Academic Events link will take you to this week's Academic Events.  Not surprisingly, as an academic institution, the bulk of the events will be classified as academic.

Searching the Calendars:
One nice thing about the calendar is that it is searchable.  After selecting a calendar or the UAMS Events & Activities link (all calendars), you will see a search box on the right side.  Where you see the text "Search for..", highlight over that text and enter your search term.  Select "All Calendars" or a specific calendar and click the Search button.

Search Tips:

Try Searching on One Word: The search engine is very specific in the search on this calendar.  Try searching on one word, first.  For example, when wanting to find out when the Ward Investiture is, you might search on Ward Investituture.  No results will show.  That is because the event is entered as "Ward Chair Investiture", and it did not see Ward Investiture specifically in the results with those two words side-by-side.  When you search on Ward OR Investiture, you get results to choose from.

Be Sure to Type Over the Words "Search For..":  There is a "gotcha" to be aware of.  In the search box, you will see the terms "Search For..".  Be sure to type over those with your specific search terms.  Otherwise, you may be searching for "Search For + whatever your search phrase is".

Using Advanced Search:  The Advanced Search allows some more flexibility in your search options.  Their search results for "With All of the Words" seems pretty weak.  It seems like you will get better, although more, results by selecting the "With at Least One of the Words" option.  Be sure to select one or both of the check boxes in the Match section to search the Event Title or Event Description.  Otherwise, you will get an error message.

Searching by Category or Calendar:  At the time of this writing, the Calendar is set with one Category and all Calendars fall under that one Category of "UAMS Events & Activities".  This is the same as searching All Calendars.

Searching for Holidays:  UAMS has a holiday calendar.  Try searching under the Holiday calendar.  You may also view the Holiday calendar and scroll through the months to see when holidays appear.

For example, to find holidays in May, click on Calendar List at the top left of the navigation bar.  Select Holidays from the center.  Use the arrow keys to the left and right of the month name to move to the May calendar.  For May 2005, you will see that May 30 is highlighted.  Click on May 30 to see that the holiday for that day is Memorial Day.

Item Classification:  Most items on the calendar will be classified as Academic Events.  Items specific to a College or particular calendar should be labeled as such, but will probably be included as Academic Events as well.

Viewing Details About a Calendar Event:  To view details about a calendar event, click on the event title.  A new smaller window will display.  The event title will appear at the top in the highlight bar.  You may choose to print the item, recommend the event, close the window or add the event to your Outlook calendar via the vCalendar link.

Recommending an Event:  You can recommend events through E-mail to colleagues, co-workers, friends or family via the Recommend It link.  When you recommend an event, a new window is displayed that prompts you for your name and E-mail address and the name and E-mail address of the person that you would like to send an E-mail regarding the event.  You may also include an optional message.

Adding an Event to Your Personal Outlook Calendar:  A nice feature of this calendar system is that you can add events automatically to your personal Outlook calendar by clicking on the vCalendar link.  A window will open and ask if you want to Open or Save the file. To add this to your calendar, choose Open.  A new Outlook window will open.  Choose Save and Close when you have all the information you need posted to your calendar.  You can change the event time and text as needed if you need additional information or if you want to include notes to yourself about any additional setup or travel time needed.
