AUG. 11, 2003 | What exactly is the meant by the term “professionalism?” What qualities does that word imply, and how does one develop them? Those are some of the questions to be addressed at the next Teaching Scholars Lecture, sponsored by the Hank B. Slotnick, Ph.D., Visiting Professor in the Dr. Slotnick is the author of a book and more than 60 articles about adult learning. Many of his writings focus particularly on how physicians learn. He is a nationally respected medical educator, having received CME awards from the American Educational Research Association and the The lecture is titled “Professions and Professionalism: What They Are, How They’re Learned, and the Role Instruction Plays in Their Development and Maintenance.” The goal of OED in picking the topic is to help faculty members understand how they have an impact on the professionalism their students show later in practice.
