LITTLE ROCK – Founding members of Friends of the College of Public Health, an advocacy organization for the new college at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), met this week to make plans.

"The Friends of the College of Public Health is a diverse group of supporters that will help the college fulfill its mission of improving the health and quality of life of Arkansans," Dean James. M. Raczynski, Ph.D., said.

Attorney Diane Mackey of Little Rock, the group’s chairwoman, said, "This school is founded on the needs of this state." Member Calvin E. Kellogg, vice president for enterprise development for Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, commented that effective public health programming should ultimately reduce the cost of health care, and thus of health insurance.
