Citizens Are Coping with 9/11, says UAMS Psychiatrist

OCT. 18, 2001 | A psychiatrist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) observed recently that the public seems to be coping with the stress of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"I think we're pulling out of that sense of sadness and that depressed feeling," Winston Brown, M.D., told a columnist for Donrey Media. "I think there's obviously a persistent concern about where we're headed and what all of this entails for each of us, individually and nationally."

Brown said that, while Arkansans have been affected emotionally, he's "not seeing an increase in diagnosable episodes of things like depression and anxiety." See the Oct. 14 column here.

Dr. Brown is a member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the UAMS College of Medicine.
