GCRC Deadline Changed to July 1 for Grant Proposals
MAY 19, 2003 | The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is seeking pilot grant proposals for awards of up to $15,000 each to help support human-based research projects at UAMS and CAVHS for one year. Projects will be chosen on the basis of their potential for leading to competitive applications for funding from the National Institutes of Health or Veterans’ Administration, along with other criteria.
Candidates must submit a five-page protocol with an appendix of up to five pages detailing the study’s methods by July 1. The application packet should also include a biographical sketch of the investigator, cover letter, budget, and other support materials.
The GCRC Pilot Program is designed to allow junior faculty members, clinical fellows, and both M.D. and Ph.D. post-doctoral trainees with appropriate mentors to obtain additional funds. It awards up to four grants each year. The GCRC offers space and nursing support, as well as scientific and statistical review by its advisory committee. Grant winners are expected to present a final written report to the committee at the end of the funding period indicating the investigator’s plans for continuing the project.
Post-doctoral applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. Fellowship applicants should have completed at least one year of their fellowships, and must have attended or be scheduled to attend the GCRC training course. All applicants must have a mentor. Ph.D. applicants must have a physician collaborator who has or will obtain privileges at the John L. McClellan VA Hospital.
