Medical Student Receives Exclusive AIDS Fellowship, LITTLE ROCK – Sherita Willis, M.S., of Luxora, Arkansas, a senior in the College of Medicine of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), is one of eight medical students nationwide chosen for the National Medical Fellowships Program in AIDS Care.
Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Richard P. Wheeler, M.D., of the UAMS College of Medicine called the award a major accomplishment.
Willis will participate in a multidisciplinary training program at the University of California, San Francisco AIDS Research Institute Oct. 6-31. She plans to practice family medicine, with a special interest in infectious diseases, in her native Mississippi County.

LITTLE ROCK – Neurological disease will be the theme of Mini-medical School at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) on Thursday evenings, April 1 – May 6. The UAMS College of Medicine sponsors the annual free public seminar series. The 2004 series, “You Have a Lot of Nerve!: Neurological Disease,” will include talks on memory, dementia, strokes, Parkinson’s disease, and other topics. Each seminar will include two lectures with a refreshment break in between. The seminars will be 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the new College of Public Health, 4301 W. Markham St. Parking will be available on the UAMS Medical Center parking deck on Markham Street. A sky bridge links the parking deck and College of Public Health.
Participants can register at www.uams.edu/minimed/ or at the door. Dean James Pasley, M.D., professor and assistant dean in the College of Medicine, is the coordinator of the series. The Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau is a co-sponsor of UAMS Mini-medical School. |
