All men ages 50-75 are eligible for the free screenings. African-American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer are eligible beginning at age 40. Appointments will be taken from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 12-22. To make an appointment, call (501) 526-7999. For a small fee, parking will be available in the Outpatient Center parking deck on the corner of Cedar Street and Capitol Avenue. According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, with an estimated 232,000 new cases diagnosed each year in the United States. UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a medical center, five centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has about 2,200 students and 660 residents and is the state’s largest public employer with almost 9,000 employees. UAMS and its affiliates have an economic impact in Arkansas of $4.3 billion a year. UAMS centers of excellence are the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy and Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute.
