These segments explore the crisis of the uninsured.
The rapidly growing number of uninsured patients is one of the greatest threats to quality medical care today. About 41 million people nationwide, including 400,000 in Arkansas, do not have any kind of medical coverage.
UAMS associate professor Joe Thompson, M.D., M.P.H., of the College of Medicine and the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement is leading a federally-funded effort to find innovative solutions. One of the new ideas, a plan that combines public and private sector financing, could serve as a model for the rest of the nation.
This program contains five segments of two minutes each. The files are in MP3 format and can be heard on any computer with speakers. Click below to listen to each segment of this program.
The Crisis of the Uninsured: A Broken System The Crisis of the Uninsured: The Value of Coverage The Crisis of the Uninsured: Hospitals Feel the Pinch The Crisis of the Uninsured: Hurting the "Capacity to Care" The Crisis of the Uninsured: A Possible Model Solution
These programs were first broadcast April 21-25, 2003.
T. Glenn Pait, M.D., of UAMS is the host of the program.
