AUG. 11, 2003 | What exactly is the meant by the term “professionalism?” What qualities does that word imply, and how does one develop them? Those are some of the questions to be addressed at the next Teaching Scholars Lecture, sponsored by the UAMS Office of Educational Development (OED), Tues., Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
Hank B. Slotnick, Ph.D., Visiting Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, will deliver the address. It will be open to all UAMS faculty members and carries one hour of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit. The lecture will be in room 225 on the ground floor of Education Building III.
Dr. Slotnick is the author of a book and more than 60 articles about adult learning. Many of his writings focus particularly on how physicians learn. He is a nationally respected medical educator, having received CME awards from the American Educational Research Association and the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education.
The lecture is titled “Professions and Professionalism: What They Are, How They’re Learned, and the Role Instruction Plays in Their Development and Maintenance.” The goal of OED in picking the topic is to help faculty members understand how they have an impact on the professionalism their students show later in practice.
For more information on the Teaching Scholars Program, call OED at 526-4848.
