APRIL 2, 2004 | Chancellor I. Dodd Wilson, M.D., this week announced the appointment of Stephanie Gardner, Pharm.D., Ed.D., as dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Gardner, an authority on medications for heart disease who has been interim dean since May 1, called the appointment “a distinct honor.”
“Having served as a member of the college for nearly 13 years, I can attest to the dedication of its faculty, the tremendous support of its alumni and friends, and the continuous achievements of a truly outstanding student body. The college has a rich history of academic excellence, community service, and research and I am delighted to be able to work with the pharmacy community in meeting our shared goals for the future.”
Gardner earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of North Carolina in 1987 and a doctorate in pharmacy from the same institution in 1989. She held a research fellowship in cardiovascular pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1989-1991. She earned a doctorate in education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2001.
The College of Pharmacy awards the doctor of pharmacy degree to approximately 80 graduates each year and will award approximately 90 degrees each year beginning in 2007. The pharmacists practice in community hospitals, independent pharmacies, and other settings across the state. The college celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2002.
