Free Workshops on Lead-Safe Practices to be Held in North Little Rock on Jan. 21, 26 LITTLE ROCK – A coalition of public health advocates that includes the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will host a pair of free workshops this month in North Little Rock on reducing health risks associated with lead-based paint, targeting parents along with contractors who are renovating old homes.	FEB. 24, 2004 \| A leader in research on women’s heart disease praised U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder of Arkansas today for emphasizing the need for earlier recognition and treatment of heart disease in women. ”It is extremely helpful for a medical doctor who is also a member of the U.S. Congress to draw attention to heart disease in women, said ” Jean C. McSweeney, Ph.D., R.N., of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Rep. Snyder, who is a physician, introduced the Women Have Heart Resolution (H.Res. 522) in the U.S. House of Representatives to urge women to become more aware of the threat of heart disease, the leading cause of death among American women, and of ways to reduce their risk. Dr. McSweeney, a member of the UAMS College of Nursing, completed a study last year that found that women with impending heart attacks or heart disease tend to have early warning symptoms that often escape their doctors’ notice. Her study, based on interviews of 515 women with heart disease, received international news media attention. Dr. McSweeney reported in the prestigious journal Circulation in November that “new or different fatigue, sleep problems, shortness of breath, indigestion, and anxiety could be early warning signs of heart disease.” She warned, “The appearance of these new symptoms, in conjunction with women’s standard cardiovascular risk factors, should help providers recognize women who should be thoroughly checked for heart disease.” Links on This Page U.S. Rep. FEB. 24, 2004 \| A leader in research on women’s heart disease praised U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder of Arkansas today for emphasizing the need for earlier recognition and treatment of heart disease in women. ”It is extremely helpful for a medical doctor who is also a member of the U.S. Congress to draw attention to heart disease in women, said ” Jean C. McSweeney, Ph.D., R.N., of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Rep. Snyder, who is a physician, introduced the Women Have Heart Resolution (H.Res. 522) in the U.S. House of Representatives to urge women to become more aware of the threat of heart disease, the leading cause of death among American women, and of ways to reduce their risk. Dr. McSweeney, a member of the UAMS College of Nursing, completed a study last year that found that women with impending heart attacks or heart disease tend to have early warning symptoms that often escape their doctors’ notice. Her study, based on interviews of 515 women with heart disease, received international news media attention. Dr. McSweeney reported in the prestigious journal Circulation in November that “new or different fatigue, sleep problems, shortness of breath, indigestion, and anxiety could be early warning signs of heart disease.” She warned, “The appearance of these new symptoms, in conjunction with women’s standard cardiovascular risk factors, should help providers recognize women who should be thoroughly checked for heart disease.” Links on This Page U.S. Rep.
