A new program designed to help patients and visitors find their way around the UAMS campus was launched in September. Several thousand faculty and staff members began wearing the “May I Help?” badges in an effort to direct newcomers to UAMS to specific locations on campus.

“We may also learn more ourselves about UAMS in the process of helping our guests,” said UAMS Chancellor Dr. I. Dodd Wilson regarding the badges, designed to be worn under employee ID badges. “I believe these three simple words will provide an invitation and will help visitors feel comfortable asking for help in finding their way to a clinic, an office, the cafeteria, etc.”

Th e badges, worn on a voluntary basis by those taking part in the program, include instructions on how to best serve campus visitors. They also feature the phone numbers of some of UAMS’ larger clinical centers, as many patients may not know the exact location of a physician’s office or clinic.

The need for the “May I Help?” project will increase in coming months as the UAMS campus construction project expands, with certain areas expected to see a higher-than-usual volume of patient
traffic.
