NOV. 1, 2001 | Lyon College in Batesville awarded an honorary degree to the chancellor emeritus of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Sat., Oct. 27.

Harry P. Ward, M.D., accepted the award at the college’s annual Founders’ Day Convocation. He also delivered the keynote address at the ceremony.

Chancellor Emeritus Ward was chancellor of UAMS from 1979 to 2000, helping boost the university’s standing as a research institution and establish the Arkansas Cancer Research Center, the Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute, and the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging. Prior to that, he was dean of the School of Medicine and acting chancellor at the University of Colorado Medical Center. He earned degrees from Princeton University, the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, and the University of Colorado.

Lyon is a liberal arts college with a national reputation.
