OCT. 11, 2001 | The president of a Taiwan medical university will lecture at the 17th Annual Orthopaedics Forum at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Tues., Oct. 16.
Gwo-Jaw Wang, M.D., is president of Kaohsiung Medical University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia (UVA). He will deliver an address to faculty, residents, students, research personnel, alumni, and colleagues of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Wang also will judge presentations of research by residents.
Dr. Wang has been on the faculty of the University of Virginia for a quarter-century. Until he accepted the presidency of the Taiwan university, he was the Lillian T. Pratt Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UVA, where he was praised for bringing “new life to the department by expanding the department to thirteen full-time orthopaedic surgeons and four Ph.D. research personnel, as well as upgrading the division of prosthetics and orthotics.”
Carl L. Nelson, M.D., is chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the UAMS College of Medicine.
