The pace is picking up. People are scurrying here and there, many of them carrying packages. Excitement is in the air. It’s the holiday season – no time to be down in the dumps. Unfortunately, some people are at their worst emotionally when the rest of the world seems happy.

Fred Guggenheim, M.D., professor of psychiatry in the College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will discuss the holiday blues. While they are not a clinical condition, they are no less real. The most vulnerable persons are the lonely, including empty-nesters and the recently-widowed.
