LITTLE ROCK – The College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has selected James D. Marsh, M.D., as the next Nolan Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. His appointment is effective July 1.
“Dr. Marsh is a highly acclaimed, highly regarded clinician-scientist whose work has influenced both the local and national academic environments,” said College of Medicine Dean E. Albert Reece, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A. “We are exceedingly pleased that we were able to recruit Dr. Marsh to be the next Nolan Professor and Chair of Internal Medicine.”
Marsh replaces Thomas Andreoli, M.D., who stepped down as department chair Jan. 1 and was named distinguished professor of the Department of Internal Medicine by the UAMS Board of Trustees.
Marsh comes to UAMS from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, where since 1993 he has served as the professor and director of the division of cardiology, a professor in the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics and vice chair for research of the Department of Medicine. From 1980-1993, he served as instructor, assistant professor, and associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
He earned his baccalaureate degree from Harvard University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Marsh holds board certifications in both internal medicine and
cardiology and serves on several editorial boards including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Marsh said he is delighted to be joining the College of Medicine faculty at UAMS. “The department has a tradition of academic excellence and clinical innovation, and I am eager to take on the challenge of leading the department to a new level of achievement in educating physicians, conducting world-class biomedical research and providing outstanding clinical care in all of the medical subspecialties and in general internal medicine.” |
