- UAMS surgeon performs successful implant of heart pump in child at ACH
OCT. 15, 2004 | Jonathan Drummond-Webb, M.D., chief of pediatric cardiovascular surgery and associate professor of surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine and chief of pediatric cardiovascular surgery at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH), led a surgical team that recently implanted a child with a newly developed miniature heart pump. The teen-ager, the second to receive the heart pump, is now the longest survivor after receiving the device.

OCT. 4, 2001 | A physician at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received the Excellence in Physician Leadership Award from the American Health Quality Association (AHQA).

The James Q. Cannon Memorial Endowment supports the award.
“Dr. Bill Golden is without a doubt among the leading physicians in health care improvement today,” Fred Ferree, chair of the endowment board, said. “His work in the field of quality improvement has been fundamentally important in shaping the health care industry’s concept of continuous improvement.”
Dr. Golden has served as a leader in many organizations advancing health care for Americans, including the prestigious Institute of Medicine, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Quality Forum, and the American College of Physicians - American Society of Internal Medicine. The AHQA noted that he has contributed to improvements in stroke prevention, treatment of heart attacks, and improving rates for preventative services such as immunization of adults and mammography.
Dr. Golden also is vice president for clinical quality improvement of the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care.
