Nearly 16 million people in the U.S. suffer from diabetes, with the highly preventable type 2 form of the disease accounting for 90 percent of all cases. It is a particular problem in Arkansas , where the rate of newly diagnosed patients rose by 35 percent from 1995 to 2000.
