Erin Beth Davis Hays returned to Batesville and White River Medical Center to become the first clinical pharmacy resident at the hospital. The residency program, only the fifth in Arkansas, is a joint effort between WRMC, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy and the North Central Arkansas Area Health Education Center.

OCT. 4, 2001 | The American Society for Cell Biology has included the recent work of a scientist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in a summary of important new research.
The society will present the work of Cynthia J.M. Kane, Ph.D., in its Press Book 2001, a compendium of short articles about innovative research in cell biology. Dr. Kane’s work is one of only about 15 current research projects that the society scientists selected from approximately 3,500 submitted abstracts.

Research Interest: Peptide growth factor regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation in the nervous system during normal development, upon injury, or in neurodegenerative diseases.

An associate professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in the College of Medicine, Dr. Kane is studying the basic cellular neurobiology of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Alcohol-related Neurodevelopmental Disorder. Her work is the first to identify the role of microglia in the brain pathology caused by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. See more information about her research here. She is the recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
