JAN. 26 2005 | Affiliated Foods recently gave a generous donation of $25,000 to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center (ACRC) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) from funds raised during their Team Affiliated Charity Classic.

ACRC received the gift during a January luncheon. At the luncheon, Affiliated Foods announced that the fund raiser would change its name to the Jerry Davis Charity Classic in honor of the late president and chief executive officer of Affiliated Foods Southwest in Little Rock. Davis, who passed away in November, was well-known for his generosity and philanthropy throughout Arkansas.

“As always, the Arkansas Cancer Research Center is truly grateful for the generosity of Affiliated Foods, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of Jerry Davis,” said James Y. Suen, M.D., ACRC director and professor in the Department of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery in the UAMS College of Medicine. “Jerry was a friend to the ACRC, and in many ways, a friend to anyone battling cancer. He will be greatly missed.”

ACRC will use the gift from Affiliated Foods to support its on-going cancer research and to provide the best possible care to its patients. Patients have come to the ACRC from every state in the nation and from 40 countries.

The Team Affiliated Charity Classic raises funds for eight charities, including the ACRC. The event includes a dinner, auction and golf tournament. The 2004 event carried an Old West theme, with country music, gun-shooting cowboys and a jail.
