Jones Eye Institute
Community
service outreach by the Department of Ophthalmology and the Harvey
and Bernice Jones Eye Institute (JEI) of the UAMS College of Medicine included a
gratis screening for glaucoma for participants in the Hot Springs Village Health Fair.
Ophthalmic Technician Joanna Amos used a Tonopen to check inner eye pressure of more than
1000 retirees during the half-day fair.
The department recently received a Frequency Doubling
Perimeter, a new device for glaucoma screening instrument as a gift from the Arkansas
Lions organization. With appreciation for receiving the unit, Anthony Realini, M.D., a
faculty physician at JEI, and an associate prepared and presented an informative program
about the danger of undetected glaucoma to the members of the Park Plaza Lions Club in
Little Rock. They thanked the group for the dedication of all its members to the
eradication of eye disease and finished the presentation with a gratis glaucoma screening,
using the new device with every member.
