UAMS College of Medicine Welcomes New Faculty Members

AUG. 28, 2003 | The College of Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) welcomes the following new faculty members:

Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy

Klaus A. Hollmig, M.D., and Elias Kiwan, M.D., have joined the Department of Internal Medicine as assistant professors. They also are members of the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy in the Arkansas Cancer Research Center at UAMS.

Dr. Hollmig earned his medical degree and completed research internships in hematology,

oncology and bone marrow transplantation in Germany. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri and served fellowships in hematology/medical oncology and bone marrow transplantation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Kiwan earned his medical degree in Lebanon and did internship and residency training in internal medicine in Lebanon and at UAMS. He served a fellowship at UAMS and the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital.

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes Syed A. Hasan, M.D., as an assistant professor. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Hasan completed a general surgery internship and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Department of Pathology

Douglas P. Blackall, M.D., has joined the Department of Pathology as an associate professor. He sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. A graduate of the UAMS College of Medicine, Dr. Blackall completed a pathology and laboratory medicine residency and fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Department of Psychiatry

Kara Belue, M.D., and Brandon Wall, M.D., have joined the Department of Psychiatry as instructors. Dr. Belue earned her medical degree at UAMS, while Dr. Wall received his medical degree from Louisiana State University. Both physicians completed residencies in psychiatry and behavioral sciences at UAMS.

Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology welcomes four new assistant professors.

Robert F. Buchmann, D.O., received his doctorate of osteopathy from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Long Beach Medical Center in New York and served a pediatric radiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston.

Vivek Gupta, M.D., earned his medical degree in India, where he also did diagnostic radiology and radiation oncology residency training and neuroradiology fellowship training. He completed a radiology residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and a diagnostic radiology residency and a neuroradiology fellowship at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn.

Laurie Beth Jones-Jackson, M.D., received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She did residency training in nuclear medicine at Emory University/Birmingham and at UAMS.

Muhammad Yousaf, M.D., earned his medical degree in Pakistan and completed residencies in diagnostic radiology and general surgery at Providence Hospital in South Field, Mich. He served a vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., and a neuroradiology fellowship at UAMS.

Department of Pediatrics

Seven physicians have joined the Department of Pediatrics.

Julissa Corredor-Buchmann, M.D., and Troy Gibbons, M.D., are the newest members of the department’s Gastroenterology Section. Both are assistant professors and see patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Corredor-Buchmann received her medical degree and completed an emergency medicine internship and a pediatrics residency in Caracas, Venezuela. She served a clinical and research fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. Before joining UAMS, she was an assistant professor of pediatric gastroenterology at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

Dr. Gibbons earned his medical degree in the West Indies, completed a residency in pediatrics at Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York, and served a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. His primary clinical interest is gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Richard T. (Tad) Fiser, M.D., has joined the department’s Cardiology Section as an associate professor. His clinical interest is the care of critically ill/injured infants and children, particularly those who have congenital or acquired cardiovascular disorders. He sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Fiser earned his medical degree, completed a pediatrics residency and served a pediatric critical care fellowship at UAMS.

Alba Morales, M.D., has joined the department’s Endocrinology Section as an instructor. She sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Morales earned her medical degree in Honduras. She completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and served a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the University of Florida/Shands Hospital in Gainesville. She was previously a general practitioner at Hospital El Progreso in Yoro, Honduras.

Clare Campbell Nesmith, M.D., and Becky Rogers, M.D., are the newest members of the department’s Neonatology Section. Dr. Nesmith is an instructor who sees patients in the term nursery in UAMS Medical Center. She earned her medical degree and completed a pediatrics residency at UAMS. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from UAMS. Dr. Rogers is an associate professor who sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. She completed a pediatrics residency at UAMS and served a neonatology fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Patricia Parmley, M.D., has joined the department’s Developmental Pediatrics Section as an instructor. She sees patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where her special clinical interest is developmental-behavioral disorders and spina bifida. Dr. Parmley earned her medical degree, completed a pediatrics residency and served a developmental-behavioral pediatrics fellowship at UAMS.
