JULY
11, 2003 | Alumni of the College of
Medicine at the University of Arkansas for
Medical Sciences (UAMS) reunited last
month for a weekend of memories from a
half-century ago as well as glimpses at
the future of medicine.
The Arkansas Caduceus Club, the official
organization of alumni, honored “golden graduates” of
1953 in a special ceremony; presented its
Distinguished Faculty Award to John P.
Shock, M.D.; and toured the new Jackson T.
Stephens Spine and Neurosciences Institute
– where UAMS neurosurgeons hope
paraplegics will one day walk.

on bioterrorism at the scientific sessions. Everyone in

was saddened to learn of Dr. Thompson’s death a few days
