JULY 11, 2003 | Children and
employees at Fort Smith Kids First
celebrated the center’s 10th
anniversary as well as Independence Day
with a parade and red, white, and blue
refreshments Thursday, July 3.
The center for children with special
health care needs is part of a statewide
network of 11 specialized centers operated
by the University of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences (UAMS). The
UAMS
Kids First centers provide
intensive early learning experiences along
with health care.
The children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years,
paraded on foot and in special floats –
strollers and even rolling cribs. Parents
and community leaders attended the parade
and viewed from a special viewing stand. A
reception followed with a red, white, and
blue menu of watermelons, blueberries, and
other treats.
Karen Tyler is director of the Fort Smith
center, which serves 55 children with
chronic illnesses, development delays, and
other special health care needs.
