Louis M. Fink, M.D., Receives Prestigious Pathology Award

JUNE 30, 2003 | Louis M. Fink, M.D., of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received the 2003 Gerald T. Evans Award from the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists (ACLPS) for “outstanding leadership and/or service to the society.”

The list of previous winners of the Evans Award, dating back to 1972, is a “Who’s Who” in the field of pathology, including chairmen of pathology departments at Yale, Cornell, the University of Southern California, the University of California-San Diego, the University of Washington-Seattle, and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Fink has been professor and vice chairman of the Department of Pathology in the UAMS College of Medicine since 1988 and has been a member of ACLPS for 22 years. He was president of the academy in 1999-2000, served five years on the organization’s Academic Council, and in 1991 hosted the national meeting in Little Rock.

While at UAMS, Fink helped develop and patent the Veniscope, a device that uses infrared light to locate blood vessels underneath skin. The development is the basis for IRV, Inc., a client company of UAMS BioVentures.
