Join UAMS/ACRC Team in Race for the Cure®!

JUNE 27, 2003 | Registration for the 2003 UAMS/ACRC team in the Race for the Cure® October 4 in Little Rock has begun!

Everyone who registers by July 17 will receive a gift and a chance to win dinner for two at Chili’s restaurant. All team members will receive an official Race for the Cure® T-shirt and a UAMS team T-shirt. The final deadline for registration is Aug. 28. (Download a registration form.)

All employees and supporters of UAMS and the Arkansas Cancer Research Center (ACRC) at UAMS are eligible to join the team. To find out more about the UAMS Race for the Cure team, click here.

”Our goal is to show our appreciation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by having the largest team in the race with 2,000 members! By having everyone connected to UAMS on a single team, we can do it!” team captain Andrea Peel said. ”The purpose of this unified team is to reflect that we are all a part of UAMS, no matter in which department, college or entity we may work.” Peel is a communications manager in the UAMS Office of Communications and Marketing.

ACRC is a major cancer research center and one of the centers of excellence at UAMS. It receives significant funding from the Komen Foundation. The Race for the Cure® is an annual event of the Susan G. Komen Foundation in local communities to raise money for breast cancer research and breast health initiatives.  The aim of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is to eliminate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through education and research.

UAMS and ACRC also are forming a Three Miles of Men team, with Richard Nicholas, M.D., as captain. Three Miles of Men is a special way for husbands, sons, fathers, brothers and friends to show their support of women in the race to cure breast cancer.  Teams of men line up along the race route and cheer the women along. More than 2,500 men supported and cheered the 36,000-plus women in the 2002 race in Little Rock.

UAMS/ACRC team members may register to participate in the Women’s 5K Run/Walk or the Family 2K Walk/Fun Run for $20 per person. The registration fee for Three Miles of Men is $15 and participants will receive a special Three Miles of Men hat.
