Center, the Schmieding Center for Senior
Health and Education, Boone County Health
Unit, Boone County Hometown Health
Improvement Coalition, Area Agency on
Aging of Northwest Arkansas, Mountain

The seven regional UAMS AHECs are essential providers of clinical and
educational services around the state. The Donald W. Reynolds Center on Aging
at UAMS collaborates with AHECs to provide specialized training in geriatric
care and education for senior citizens. The outreach sites of the Schmieding
Center for Senior Health and Education in northwest Arkansas receive funds from
Arkansas' share of the nationwide tobacco settlement. Harrison is the first of
three planned outreach sites.
The following UAMS officials participated in the
ribbon-cutting: Chancellor I. Dodd Wilson, M.D.; Vice Chancellor Charles O.
Cranford, D.D.S., M.P.A.; Rick Guyton, Ph.D., director, AHEC-NW; and Claudia
Beverly, Ph.D., R.N., vice chair, Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics,
UAMS College of Medicine. Dr. Jeff Olson of North Arkansas College also
participated.
