Photo Album: Dedication of the Stephens Institute

APRIL 3, 2003 | The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and 39th president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, came to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) April 1 to praise Jack Stephens of Little Rock at the dedication of the Jackson T. Stephens Spine and Neurosciences Institute. (See complete coverage here.)

At a brief news conference before the dedication, President Carter emphasized his long friendship with Jack Stephens of Little Rock, a classmate at the U.S. Naval Academy, and Mr. Stephens’ support of the Carter Center, which provides health care and promotes democracy and human rights in 65 nations around the world. President Carter reminded the audience at UAMS that after studying at the U.S. Naval Academy with Jack Stephens, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1953.
