Here’s to Your Health: Gastric Bypass Surgery

JAN. 31, 2003 | Gastric bypass surgery will be the topic on “Here’s to Your Health” Feb. 3-7, 2003 .

Gastric bypass is one of the weight reduction surgical procedures for the morbidly obese. Dan Galvin, D.O., who performs the surgery at VA Hospital and UAMS Medical Center, is the guest on the programs.

Gastric bypass involves tying off a small stomach pouch, and creating a detour from the pouch around the rest of the stomach and part of the small intestine. The surgery limits the amount of food the patient can take in, and blocks absorption by keeping food away from digestive enzymes.
