is a consortium of UAMS, Arkansas Children's Hospital Arkansas
State University, the University of Arkansas Division of
Agriculture, and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The
institute receives its funding from Arkansas's share of the
nationwide tobacco settlement, thanks to the voters' endorsement
of the proposed Tobacco Settlement Proceeds Act by 65 percent in a
referendum Nov. 7, 2000.
The following institute leaders and
scientists will speak: President B. Alan Sugg, Ph.D., of the
University of Arkansas System, chair of the institute's board of
directors; Jonathan Bates, M.D., president and chief executive
officer of Arkansas Children's Hospital; Wesley Burks, M.D.;
Donald Bobbitt, Ph.D.; Rick McDaniel, Ph.D.; Greg Weidemann,
Ph.D.; Charles Winter, Ph.D.; Gilbert, Ph.D.; Roger Koeppe, Ph.D.;
Roger Buchanan, Ph.D.; Brad Murphy, Ph.D.; and Charlotte Peterson,
Ph.D.
Dr. Barry Holtz, senior vice
president of the Large Scale Biology Corporation in Vacaville,
Calif., will deliver the luncheon speech.
