New “Arts of UAMS” Exhibit in UAMS Library

APRIL 25, 2002 | The new “Arts of UAMS” exhibit in the UAMS Library is a collection of works by Risa Clothier.

A pharmacist, Clothier is married to Jeffrey Clothier, M.D., an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the UAMS College of Medicine and interim associate chief of staff for mental health service at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.

She has studied art at the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and Glassell School of Art in Houston.

Clothier explains that watercolor is her favorite medium, but she also works in acrylic and colored pencil. Still lifes, gardens, and architectural details provide her with endless subject matter; the challenge is in interpreting this subject matter. What excites her as she paints is the use of color, the contrast of lights and darks, and the multitude of shapes within shapes and interesting lines.
