Gift
of Paintings in Chemotherapy Clinic Is a Tribute to Shirley and Sam
Strauss
|
APRIL
8, 2002 | The clinical manager of the chemotherapy
treatment clinic at the Arkansas
Cancer Research Center (ACRC) was concerned
that the room’s bare walls provided little to please
the eyes of patients.
Jackie Nelson decided that landscape paintings
suggestive of summer would be a welcome distraction
for patients at the clinic, part of the University of
Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). A generous
friend of ACRC offered to donate two paintings of
Arkansas’s White River Valley in honor of Shirley
and Sam Strauss, Jr., longtime supporters of UAMS.
Artist David Zoellner visited ACRC to install the
paintings. Small plaques on the frames acknowledge the
Strausses.
