”Red Cap” Heart Disease Survivor Celebrates

FEB. 22, 2002 | “Red Cap Survivor” Rai Smith celebrated her recovery from heart disease at the Heart Rally on campus yesterday.

Smith is senior contracts administrator in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The red cap symbolizes recovery from a heart attack, stroke, congenital heart disease, or an invasive procedure such as angioplasty or bypass surgery. “Red Cap Survivors” participate in American Heart Walk fundraising events of the American Heart Association.

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the UAMS College of Medicine sponsored the Heart Rally in Jeff Banks Student Union. The rally included a special ceremony for Red Cap Survivors at 11:30 a.m., plus dozens of information booths, door prizes, refreshment, and entertainment.
