”Red
Cap” Heart Disease Survivor Celebrates

FEB.
22, 2002 | “Red Cap Survivor” Rai Smith celebrated
her recovery from heart disease at the Heart Rally on
campus yesterday.
Smith is senior contracts administrator in the Office
of Research and Sponsored Programs at the University
of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
The red cap symbolizes recovery from a heart attack,
stroke, congenital heart disease, or an invasive
procedure such as angioplasty or bypass surgery.
“Red Cap Survivors” participate in American Heart
Walk fundraising events of the American Heart
Association.
The Division
of Cardiovascular Medicine in the UAMS College
of Medicine sponsored the Heart Rally in Jeff Banks
Student Union. The rally included a special ceremony
for Red Cap Survivors at 11:30 a.m., plus dozens of
information booths, door prizes, refreshment, and
entertainment.

The UAMS cardiology division will sponsor a UAMS team in the
American Heart Walk, a fundraising event for the American Heart
Association, on Sat., May 4, in North Little Rock. The
registration fee is $25. Each UAMS team member will receive a
UAMS Heart Walk t-shirt. Register for the team at the Feb. 21
Heart Rally or contact Shawn
