UAMS administers the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation®.

”The Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program is an excellent opportunity for young physicians who have an interest in academic medicine, health policy, or public health. We are privileged to serve as the host site for this very important program,” Dean E. Albert Reece, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., of the UAMS College of Medicine, commented.

After completing residencies or fellowships, young physicians may compete for two-year appointments at selected universities around the country. As Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars, they pursue individual programs of study and research in a broad array of disciplines, including epidemiology, biostatistics, medical information sciences, economics, the social sciences, anthropology, history of medicine, law, ethics, and the humanities.

The program is currently conducting the first open competition for training sites since 1993. The foundation and the national program office will host a workshop for potential applicants in February.

The participating universities are the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine; the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine; the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; the University of Michigan Medical School; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine; the University of Washington School of Medicine; and Yale University School of Medicine.

Annie Lea Shuster is director of the national program office at UAMS.
