Teaching Scholars Lecture Series
Hank B. Slotnick, Ph.D.
Professions and Professionalism: What They Are, How They're Learned, and
the Role Instruction Plays in Their Development and Maintenance.
Professions play a particular role in society, and society rewards
professions accordingly. This talk considers the role as well as the ways
in which professions recruit professionals-in-training, train them, and then
monitor their practices. Special attention will be given to the elusive
attributes known collectively as professionalism so that those
attending will understand how their efforts as teachers impact on the
professionalism their students show years later in practice.
