The Self-Discipline of Being a Professional

View Dr. Medio's lecture.

What is "professionalism?" How does one define it, teach it and evaluate it?  The answers to these questions pose a significant challenge to faculty and administrators across all health professions.  This presentation will present: a) six elements of professionalism, b) the principles underlying each element and 3) a method for evaluating professionalism.

Dr. Medio is Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, the ACGME Designated Institutional Official for GME, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has been involved in health professions education since 1979. His research interests include improving graduate medical education, clinical teaching, and professionalism.
