Quality Queries: Asking Questions that Count
Questions are an
important part of the teacher’s tool box. Good questions can promote
learning and understanding in educational settings from ward teaching to
classrooms of hundreds of students. This session will help you to improve
the quality of your questions, whether your style is Socratic or didactic.

A graduate of the
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Combined
Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program, Lynn M. Manfred, MD, EdD, is
the Pediatrics Clerkship Director at the University of Massachusetts Medical
School. She has a longstanding interest in strategies for promoting
learning in adults and innovative teaching methodologies. She has been
active in curriculum development at the residency level in
Medicine/Pediatrics residencies and at the medical school level in both
preclinical and clinical courses. Dr. Manfred was the first chair of the
National Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Directors Association and is active
in the revision of the Counsel on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP)
National Pediatrics Curriculum. One of her current research interests is in
small group teaching methods.
