The Teaching Scholars program is designed for faculty members at UAMS, from all five colleges, who wish to learn more about educational principles, teaching, learning and educational scholarship.

Program goals and objectives

Teaching  Scholars is designed to enrich  the educational programs of  the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences by improving the teaching and educational research skills of  faculty and by providing an avenue for increased faculty interaction and professional growth.  The objectives are to:

§ Assist faculty in improving their teaching and educational research skills by providing workshops on topics such as: curriculum and instructional materials development, teaching strategies, and educational research.

§ Produce a group of teaching scholars who will mentor and educate other faculty in the methods of educational excellence, seek funding for educational research, and disseminate their scholarly work on education through presentations and publications.

Instructional/teaching format and methods

The format includes twice monthly workshops on topics related to teaching and educational research given by both local and nationally known health professions educators; and completion of a scholarly educational project.
