Faculty Development and Educational Scholarship:  Critical Investments for Excellence in Health Professions Education

More than ever, professional organizations and other public audiences are calling for increased accountability and evidence of excellence in curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment.  Recognition of the increasing complexity of teaching and the need to share and make public the processes and outcomes of teaching and education work has fueled considerable interest in nurturing and recognizing scholarly work and scholarship in these roles and activities.  This presentation will engage the audience in examining a variety of individual, organizational, and institutional features that influence faculty members’ professional development and scholarly achievement in their teaching and educational activities.
