Philip G. Bashook, Ed.D.
Evaluating Professional Competencies:
An Example from Medicine
Dr. Bashook will provide the conceptual basis
for constructing a system of evaluating clinical professionalism as well as a how-to-guide
to resident evaluation. He will provide a historical perspective, explain the new
competencies and give helpful documentation information. There are implications for all
faculty involved in clinical training.

Philip G. Bashook, Ed.D. has been the Director of
Evaluation and Education with the American Board of Medical Specialties for nine years.
The 24 ABMS member boards certify physician specialists in the US. Here, Dr. Bashook
provides expert consultation to boards on assessment methods, recertification and policy
issues. He also provides staff expertise for the ABMS initiative on physician competence
and has initiated a research agenda for the ABMS on board certification.
