New Inbound/Outbound Shipping Procedure
During a recent study, in 48 of 50 cases (98 percent) UPS was the best choice for cost on a service-to-service basis (e.g. Priority Overnight, 2nd Day Air, etc.). UPS saved UAMS 40 percent versus Optifreight, and 21 percent versus Fedex on outbound freight.
Based upon this study, Supply Chain Management advocates using UPS for all UAMS outbound shipping.
In addition, UAMS Supply Chain Management has hired Ann Williams (686-6132) as full-time Freight Manager for all UAMS facilities. All inbound and outbound freight shipments need to be directed to Ann for setup. This applies to all small packet and LTL (less than full load) shipments. Ann is working with shipping companies to secure us the best rates on all outbound shipments. UPS has given UAMS a heavy discount on LTL shipments and this should reduce shipping costs for capital equipment and contractor items.
