Distribution Services

Distribution Services (DS) employs forty-one (41) full time employees performing several logistic functions for the UAMS campus including maintaining a centralized receiving point at the off-campus Distribution Center (DC) and receiving purchase orders in the SAP system as appropriate to allow for vendor payment.  The Distribution Center is open or on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for patient care delivery. With only a few exceptions, all goods ordered for UAMS are received at the Distribution Center. Some items such as large crated equipment, furniture and some priority packages are usually routed to the appropriate campus dock for carrier delivery.

DS maintains five (5) on-campus satellite locations; these satellite offices are located near the docks of the main hospital, the Outpatient Clinic, the Biomedical 2 building, Stephens Spine building, and Winthrop Rockefeller Cancer Institute.  Each satellite receives deliveries (both internal and external) but more importantly serves as the primary delivery point to the buildings located in their area.  From the DC and its satellite locations, Distribution Services delivers non-stock and stock supplies, equipment and some furniture to the campus and surrounding off-campus sites.  Currently DS personnel make deliveries in 77 buildings across the county; this includes to UAMS personnel located in Arkansas Children’s Hospital buildings and the VA located in Little Rock and North Little Rock.

In addition, DS personnel deliver dry ice daily, administer the compressed gas contract for the campus, pick and deliver periodicals from library storage and deliver office supplies for the office supply vendor – supplies that are required to be re-packed and re-routed with daily a daily delivery schedule.  DS personnel also replenish Omni-cell units with medical / surgical supplies in the Freeway Medical and the Women’s Clinic buildings.  Distribution Services also maintains a special IT inventory available for the IT technicians to repair and maintain computers on campus.

With policy changes enacted recently, all vendor returns of equipment or supplies must be processed through Distribution Services.  Details concerning this policy can be viewed on the UAMS web site for policies and procedures.

Distribution Services is responsible for all central stock supplies for the campus (ordering, delivering and maintaining).  These supplies include medical / surgical supplies, office supplies, janitorial supplies and other items.  Our current stock inventory contains over 2,500 items valued at over $1,000,000.  Campus departments can order these supplies by placing a reservation in SAP.  Most locations receive daily deliveries.
